“A person who has never owned a dog has missed a wonderful part of life.“
- Bob Barker
Your pet will be bathed and dried by experienced and extensively trained members of our staff using kind and effective techniques to ensure they are ready to be styled and finished by a Professional Groomer.
It is important to us that the experience for your pet is a positive one and they become familiar with us and learn to accept us, Continually changing grooming salons can have a detrimental effect on your dog causing the experience to be difficult for all concerned. Grooming time in the salon can vary however we estimate that your pet will be with us for approx 1hr for a Bath only appointment, 1 ½ hours for a Face Feet and Bum appointment and up to a maximum of 3 hours for a full groom. (see services) These times can vary in extreme circumstances however we endeavor to have your pet back with you as quickly as possible.
Please always ensure your pet comes with a secure collar and lead and has had the opportunity to relieve themselves before attending their appointment.
During the bathing process we clean the earflaps with our specialist dog shampoo to remove excess wax, when your pet has been dried thoroughly and is ready to be groomed we pluck any excess hair from the ear canal using a powder that helps us to gently pull any unwanted clumps of hair from the ear canal we then clean the whole area with a mild specialized astringent.
Wax build up and excessively wet ears can lead to infections due to lack of air circulation (especially in long floppy ears) this can cause itching and digging at ears and can lead to deafness if not properly attended to. Signs of ear problems are constant scratching at ears a foul smell from the ear canal and redness on the skin around the ears.
If there is an infection present we advise that you seek your vet’s advice before trying to pluck or clean the area as this can be very painful for the animal while an infection is present.
Anal Gland Expression
We will empty the anal glands if it is evident to us that it needs done while your pet is being bathed, as long as there is no sign of infection. Please speak to your vet if you believe your dog is experiencing discomfort, you must also advise us before your dog comes to be groomed if he/she is attending the vet in relation to the anal glands.
The glands can spontaneously empty, especially under times of stress, and create a very sudden unpleasant change in the odor of the dog. Dog feces are normally firm, and the anal glands usually empty when the dog defecates, lubricating the anal opening in the process. When the dog’s stools are soft they may not exert enough pressure on the glands, which then may fail to empty. This may cause discomfort as the full anal gland pushes on the anus. Anal gland fluid is normally yellow to tan in color and watery in consistency. Impacted anal gland material is usually brown or gray and thick. The presence of blood or pus indicates infection. Signs of discomfort are usually demonstrated by your dog dragging his/her bottom along the ground. In these instances always consult a Vet.
