Grooming

Grooming your pet is an essential part of responsible pet ownership, as soon as possible after you take your new pet home and he/she acquaints themselves with their new surroundings commence a grooming routine this will forge the bond between you and your new family member if done with kindness and patience. Because every pet is different and will respond in their own way to being groomed, it is important that you are consistent and patient however if you are finding it difficult or are confused about which tools to use drop us a line and we will be happy to advise you, it is as important to us that you keep your pet maintained in between grooms as it is to you and your pet.

Shave Off Policy

Dense matting always causes discomfort. It prevents exposure of skin to sunlight and fresh air, causing sweaty areas providing optimum conditions for fungus, bacteria and parasites. If disregarded, the full coat eventually matts to the root, then de-matting by comb becomes far too traumatic for the pet.

The only realistic solution is then to Shave/Clip off down to the bare skin. However dense matting pulls, twists and ridges the skin, causing clippers to graze, catch nick or mark, and can on occasion cause some discomfort. If a pet becomes distressed or upset the treatment will be halted, to be continued at a future appointment.

After completion your pet’s relief is obvious (& the coats soon re grows). We strongly recommend that you then book a regular grooming program, choosing a shorter coat style for your pet. To avoid matting we recommend that you comb your pets coat at least once a week, and always before and after a bath. For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us, we are more than happy to advise you how to best look after your pets grooming needs.

Maintaining A Healthy Coat

We recommend that if you have difficulty grooming your pet that you bring them to the salon 4 or 6 weekly to have a bath and brush out, cost depends on the size and breed, however will work out at roughly the same cost as having your dog shaved off every 3 months due to matting and will be much kinder to your pet.
